Everyone living in the western world, male and female, regardless of religious upbringing, has at some time been confronted with the image, and considerable baggage, of Eve. She’s seen alternately as first woman, innocent creature lured into evil, temptress, consorter with the devil, fallen priestess of a goddess cult, and subservient to men through her own flaw. After all of these centuries, and considering all of the bad press, can she, and should she, be redeemed? How is her story still affecting people today?

Rather than give only my answer to the question, I’ll ask writers and artists to respond to one of the , prompts “I am Eve” or “I am not Eve” through essays, poetry, and visual work. I’ll create a performance and video using the resulting material. My goal is to show many different perspectives, like a kaleidoscope rather than a story.

Until I see what people have to say, I can’t be too specific about the video. I do know that I want to use performances as well as still images with voice-overs.

Set Requirements

To be determined based on the needs of the performance.

Costume/make-up/hair requirements

A variety of make-up, hair styles, and costumes from fig leaves to contemporary fashion.

Prop Requirements

To be determined, but there should definitely be apples, figs, and live snakes.

Sound/Video/Lighting

Again, this will be determined by the form of the performance, but I will need help with all aspects of this.

Talent

Minimally there should be a female Eve and a male Eve. Ideally, there will be many different Eves. I may also have writers read from their own work and splice the readings into the video.
